Today I cycled from the ferry port to Denpasar, the place from which I’ll fly to Australia in 4 days 😊 And I could already tick an important item of the list – the cardboard box! I just had to cycle the last 9 km in city traffic like that but it went fine. Now I’ll have plenty of time to properly clean the bike and my bags and to pack everything up. While chilling at the beach in Senggigi I got to talk to Marlin. After a few minutes he invited me to his home – on the other side of the island. I gratefully accepted and spend the last two days diving into Indonesian culture and exploring the Island guided by a local. It felt really nice at this point to not have to decide where to go and what to do all the time by myself. As it is Ramadan right now I also experienced the fast breaking after dawn with delicious Indonesian food! This morning I reached Bali. I was totally destroyed after the bus ride… the seats seem to have been made for shorter people. Opposed to the rest of Indonesia, in Bali Hinduism is prevalent. Everywhere you turn into small alleys you see artfully crafted shrines made of black volcanic stone. At some point Komoot did komoot things and led me to a river crossing. The water was not high but as I didn’t know what’s inside of it I turned around. Next to the beautiful pictures of nature and people, there are some things no one wants to see. Unfortunately, I see run-over animals on the side of the road almost every day. mostly dogs and cats. many die directly at the scene of the accident. A few impressions of today. This time without music or narration ✌🏻 My night ferry arrived at 05:00 in the city of Surat Thani. While most of the other people waited for their buses and cars I could continue immediately. Initially I only wanted to get out of the city and have a nap afterwards. But some how I just kept going and going. I cycled by an famous Buddhist cave temple and laid down there for about an hour. I was joined by two street dogs. Sooo I am in Thailand now! 😅 Unfortunately, the border crossing was super stressful this time. I was constantly being sent from one counter to the other and had to fill out several forms until I finally got in. It felt like I was entering another world, suddenly there are real streets, large supermarkets and everyone seems to speak English. And the highlight of my day today: In Thailand you can rent a room and use the toilets and showers for free at any Highway Police Station. The room was occupied but I wanted to camp anyway (at a pleasant 24 degrees at night). Now I’m lying in my tent, showered and sated, and I’m excited to see what happens tomorrow. So.. I did a day trip today – to China! 😁🇨🇳 Usually it is not that easy to get the Visa to china. However, as of December 1st. The restrictions got lifted for some countries. So of course I had to take the opportunity to go and what can I say, it was amazing! Even though it was just a few 100 meters over the a river it was very different to Vietnam. And the best - not a single other tourist/foreigner to be seen the whole day. I had a lot of nice interactions with the curious and kind local people. That’s also why I am looking forward to being on the bike again. You don’t get these experiences in the touristic places. Also I really feel now what it means to be dependent on the infrastructure to get you around. With the bicycle you have the complete freedom to go wherever you like and whenever you want. Sooo apparently the climate here is a big „no no“ for down sleeping bags. As I really like mine I don’t want it to grow mold 🥲 (the humidity is to high) I took that opportunity to go through all my stuff to check what I don’t need now anymore. I also planned ahead and will not need it anymore later down the journey. I used the rest of the day to explore the city and write some postcards 🙂

After a few rainy days, which I had used for editing, I went again on the road today. On the right side I had all the time the Van Lake (the largest lake in Turkey). On the left side stretched meager rock landscapes rocky landscapes. After about 40 km the Mount Süphan towered up. With its 4058 meters it is the fourth highest mountain in Turkey and is covered with snow all year round. Today I looked at a cave house that is typical of the area. Even when the sun is beating down hard outside, it is pleasantly cool in here. Also in winter, the temperature is maintained. There are various tunnels and „stone ladders“ which connect the different floors and rooms with each other. A family of 15 people lived in the complex until 1920. the descendants restored it and converted into a musuem. For just 40 tl (~1,30€) you can visit all of it. It has once again proven true: without health, everything is nothing. This applies to both physically and mentally. The last few days have challenged me a lot, the thing with the „bad bugs“ has made me almost insane. I would not know how it would go on if I really would have hat them and wouldn’t have been able to get rid of them. In addition, the thing with my stomach also bothered me a lot. I was caught in a spiral from which it is difficult to get out. If had no appetite and did not eat a lot. That resulted in me having no strength. Therefore I was not able to cycle which affected my mood. And again from the beginning. Today I also delayed to get back on the bike and only started to ride in the late afternoon. And suddenly everything was good. I had motivation to ride again and discover things. I met nice people and admired the landscape. But that is only possible if you are fit. They exist. Days like this one when everything somehow doesn't work out. Because of all the Turkish flags along the way, you are always reminded where the wind is coming from, directly from the front. And that really gets to me, not only physically but also mentally. It just feels wrong to cycle in second gear, which I usually use to drive up passes, on a straight road where I am creeping along with 10km / h. When I arrived at the next town I wanted to get a sim card. For some reason it did not work out because it was blocked for me and I should try again tomorrow. The employees were super nice though and interested in my tour. With the help of google translate we had a nice interaction. My main goal for today was to finish the video and publish it. This turned out to be more difficult than I thought. There was WI-FI in the cafes and bars I was in. However, it was quite slow and I would have had to wait 3 hours and find a place to camp in the dark. Therefore, I decided to do it tomorrow and went on. In order not have to drive so long tomorrow to get to a place with wifi I decided to camp near the city. I also found an okay spot which is away far enough but still close. When I set up my tent a bird almost shat on me. Well tomorrow is another day! Must note at this point how hospital and friendly the people are in Turkey. Already now I notice a clear difference to other countries. There are many interactions and gifts. What a day. I started a little late from the hut as I waited until the rain was over. I was followed for the first kilometers by the dog from the hut (he stole my tortillas yesterday by the way). The „road“ got worse and worse the more I climbed. I had to push the bike for the last 400 meters of altitude because it was not possible to cycle anymore. I was greeted at the top with a nice view. Aaand they way down had the same quality as the way up. Luckily I was able to cycle most of it but my wrists are not that happy about it 😅 Found a beautiful spot in the fields. „Only one more day“ – Aaand its a week now since I came to Ohrid. And I didn’t even planned to come here at all. Today i managed to leave but it was tough. Definitely one of the best hostels I have ever been to. Not because of the rooms or general structure but because of the people. First and foremost, the manager himself Gyoko! I really also enjoyed to talk with the other guests and go on activities together. In my three months before I have had my fair share of social encounters, but most of them are limited to a few days until they ways parted again. But now it was time for me continue. I am pretty sure though it wasn’t my last time in Ohrid! @sunsetlakehostel @_ohrid_macedonia @travelling @balkans @travel

Yesterday was the national holiday of Macedonia, so probably the fresh flowers. The place of the route was generally the beautiful. A descent on the old road through enchanted villages and simple houses.
